COMMITTEES

Professor Mario Maj
President, World Psychiatric Association
President of Congress

"Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to invite you to participate in the WPA Regional
Meeting to be held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from June 10 to 12, 2010.
The theme of the meeting will be “Traditions and Innovations in
Psychiatry”.
This will be an extremely useful opportunity for psychiatrists from the WPA European Region to strike a balance between traditional approaches and recent innovations in various areas of our discipline and profession, including diagnosis and classification (with a special focus on depression and schizophrenia), pharmacotherapies and psychotherapies, neurobiological research, and child psychiatry.
The contribution of Russian-speaking countries to the progress of knowledge in the above areas, sometimes not fully acknowledged due to the language barrier, will be extensively discussed.
Needless to say, the meeting will be a wonderful opportunity for European psychiatrists and accompanying persons to visit one of the most fascinating towns in the world, full of history and art and permeated by a unique atmosphere.
I look forward to meeting you in St. Petersburg."

Professor Valery Krasnov
President, Russian Society of Psychiatrists
Director of Congress

"Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite psychiatrists from all over the world to St. Petersburg to take part in the WPA Regional Meeting on June 10-12, 2010.
The Meeting whose theme is “Traditions and Innovations in Psychiatry” will highlight rich experience of European psychiatry and recent contributions from different parts of the world, based on replicable research designs.
Over the years we have noticed the renewed interest in the traditions of Russian psychiatry which are connected with the well known names of S. Korsakov, P. Gannushkin, V. Bekhterev.
St. Petersburg is not only a world famous tourist and cultural place, but also one of declared centre of psychiatric ideas. Currently, St. Petersburg gives the example of reforming in the system of mental health care grounded on the best European and Russian traditions and new world advances in psychiatry, clinical psychology and neurosciences.
It is the optimal conjunction of evidence based data and conceptual approaches that make the system of psychiatric care more reproducible and theoretically substantiated.
The Russian psychiatric community is cordially welcoming the guests and we look forward to greeting you in St. Petersburg, the Northern Capital of Russia."
